Nestled on the quiet street of Jl. Ngagel Jaya Utara No.21 in Surabaya, Picaroll Cafe & Bakery is a hidden gem that perfectly blends the warmth of a cozy neighborhood cafe with the charm of a boutique bakery. This inviting spot draws locals and visitors alike, offering a serene retreat for coffee lovers, remote workers, and food enthusiasts craving comfort and quality in their daily routine.
The cafe exudes a minimalist and clean ambiance, enhanced by soft Korean playlists that create a calm, almost contemplative atmosphere—ideal for those who want to unwind or dive deep into their work without distractions. Several reviewers, like abdurrahman asri, have noted how the chilled interior combined with slow tunes makes sipping a cappuccino not just a break, but a small moment of joy in a hectic day.
Picaroll's menu is a thoughtful mixture of light bites and hearty comfort dishes, reflecting Indonesian flavors with a creative twist. Signature items such as the nasi telur Pontianak bring a burst of savory goodness, though its robustly saucy and salty profile might be an acquired taste as mentioned by Cindy. For lunch or dinner, options like the tuna rica rice, salmon teriyaki, and nasi gila deliver satisfying meals that nourish both body and soul.
A must-try has to be their celebrated bakery creations, especially the Monroll and Picnic Roll. Customers repeatedly praise these rolls not only as scrumptious treats but also as thoughtful gift options for special occasions. The Monroll, filled luxuriously with salmon, offers a rich, velvety texture that melts in your mouth, leaving a pleasant savory aftertaste perfect to complement a carefully brewed cup of coffee.
Coffee, while limited to a modest selection of four varieties, remains a highlight for many. The cappuccino stands out with its balanced warmth and velvety foam, making it a favored choice in the afternoon. That said, some customers, like Sabrina Rahmah, felt the Thai tea leaned too milky, illustrating that the cafe's beverages invite a bit of personal preference and experimentation.
What really brings Picaroll alive is its ability to cater to diverse needs—a dependable work-from-cafe spot with great service speed, good music volume, and a welcoming vibe, alongside a cozy nook for casual hangouts or relaxing afternoons. Evanthe Purwanto found the prices reasonable, making it an excellent choice for regular visits, whether to snack or to recharge with a satisfying meal.
Finally, the often-mentioned bakso picaroll is a delightful surprise—comforting, flavorful, and an excellent pick-me-up during a busy day. The balance of tastes and the consistent quality show the cafe's dedication to creating a memorable and comforting food experience.
In sum, Picaroll Cafe & Bakery is more than just a place to grab coffee and snacks—it's a companion to your day, a quiet respite for your thoughts, and a showcase of delicious, heartfelt Indonesian cuisine and baked delights. Whether you're here to work, relax, or share a thoughtful gift, Picaroll extends a warm invitation to slow down and savor the moment.

Ordered thai tea but its too milky rather than tea, so its like drinking a milk. Other than that everything was good.

From what I saw, would be solid for WFC aka work from cafe. The interior was quite okay. Music volume perfect. Service was great and everything came out almost immediately. The food, however… Their nasi telor Pontianak was too saucy for my taste, and the sauce was predominantly salty. They only had like 4 coffee selections. For a cafe, I personally think that’s too few. The coffee was also not the greatest, a bit too watery. It was still okay though. I didn’t try the bread so cannot comment on it.

did not expect that in a small street there is a bakery. from its attractive appearance, but this time I want to try the coffee. cappuccino is an option in the afternoon which is still hot. luckily the place is cold, with a minimalist and clean interior and accompanied by slow Korean playlists that are happening so you immediately feel bored when you drink a cup of coffee. yup, you must try it
